Pumpkin Spice has become a synonym for autumn.  Our houses are scented in cinnamon and nutmeg, all desserts turn into pumpkin, and the world turns orange.  For me, however, there is nothing better suited to those flavors than the original Starbuck’s drink.  I love a well-made latte any time of year, but there is something particularly soothing about a warm, autumn scented drink once the mornings turn chilly.

Living in rural southeastern Ohio and just one mile from my job at the best heating and cooling dealer in the state, the closest Starbucks is completely out of my way.  Not to mention, I’m not really a splurger on the small things in life.  I’m more of a save my nickels and dimes and give them all to Disney on vacation type of spender.  My solution is my own take on this quintessential fall drink.  It’s inexpensive and fast to make and takes only a few ingredients.

Pumpkin Spice “Cappuccino”:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Fat Free 1/2 & 1/2
  • dash Pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 tbsp coffee
  • 1 tbsp caramel coffee syrup
  • whipped cream (in a can)
  • caramel ice cream topping

Special tools:

  • Keurig single cup coffee maker
  • Reusable K-Cup
  • microwave
  • stick blender

Directions:

Put 1/2 & 1/2 in a coffee cup and place in microwave on high for 15 seconds until slightly warm but do not boil.  Use stick blender to froth.  Add 1 tbsp caramel coffee syrup and a dash of pumpkin pie spice.

Put coffee in reusable K-cup with a dash of

pumpkin pie spice on top.  Make coffee according to Keurig directions into cup with frothed 1/2 & 1/2.

Top with whipped cream and drizzle with caramel topping.  Sprinkle with cinnamon if so desired.

Enjoy!
